The role of JPA as the Energy Minister is to promote economic development and wealth creation, social development, and improvement of the environment. He also has various other duties in relation to culture and tourism, including responsibility for the country and its citizens.

John Peter Amewu was born in Wli Todzi;Hohoe district of the volta region.

John-Peter Amewu is over 48 years old, and holds an MBA (Finance) from University of Ghana. He also has a Post Graduate Degree (Executive MBA in International Energy Industry Management), and Masters in Petroleum Law and Policy from University of Dundee (UK).
